BTC Mobile

With two mobile networks running in Botswana at fairly good call rates a third is about to hit the market in 6 weeks time which we suspect to be cheaper than its competitors According to my understanding both Orange™ and Mascom are using the already existing infrastructure owned by Botswana Telecommunications Corporation which mean they pay service fee's to BTC. So if BTC Mobile runs on its own infrustruture they wont need to pay an extra fee which makes there cost lower and hopefully cheaper for the consumer.

The network is online already for BETA testing. If you goto your cell phone network settings and search for a mobile operator you will now find 3 operators the third being BTC Mobile.

There is still some politics needed to be sorted out before the release say Sunday Standard:
Earmarked to go on air in six weeks time, inside information points that there are a few boardroom scores still to be settled before the much anticipated launch.
Indications are that there will be more tears shed before BTC mobile goes on air.

Power Outages

Enjoying electricity for a while now without shedding. At least we value it more than before. Botswana power corp released a schedule of shedding times in Gaborone but the site (hosted by IBIS) has been down for more than two weeks now.

Apparently 75% of our power supply comes from South Africa. South Africa is supplying their neighbors and out of 100% of energy only 5% is supplied to neighboring countries which mean that they use 95% of their own power so i don't think Botswana has such a heavy impact on Eskom.

And we are not the only country(s) that are affected by outages New York, Cleveland, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan, and Toronto and Ottawa, Florida, Canada and parts of Europe have also recently had major outages.

So knowing that we not in the struggle alone should make us feel a bit better.

Vote as to what you do when there is an outage and comment on where you wouldn't wanna be at the time of an outage (e.g elevator).

ZCC gathering

So easter is almost here.. Well you could say its here already cos pick n pay were selling easter eggs since January already. Borders are gonna be packed for the ZCC conference which is held yearly in the north west province.

Friend of mine tried almost every bus company in gabs to charter a bus to Jo'burg for some other event and there are no buses available.

The sad thing to me is that religion has become a means to make money. People that i have spoken to who attend these conferences say that its a money making scheme. Maybe im wrong, maybe someone can clarify all the accusations.
